Meet Our Team

Andy Castle

Andy is the Grandson of the shops founder (Alf Jones) and continues the family tradition of the shop.

For years he has been at the forefront of the mountain bike scene and during his time has completed several Trans Alp stage races. He is also known to dabble in the odd triathlon for his sins.

Still passionate about all forms of the sport there is little he hasn’t seen.

Likes: Stupidly light bikes, Haribo, Apples

Dislikes: Instant coffee, baggy shorts

Favourite sayings: “Now, if I'D been doing it......."

Gareth Davies

Gareth has been with the shop for over 10 years (you can get less for murder) he is the original sporting bill and racing monkey. Having run and played hockey at high level he has found his niche on a bike.

Another of the original mountain bikers with several years of national series races and 24hour competitions under his belt he now rides on the road. He is a bike tart so will never be seen in miss-matching kit.

If you want to know where all the best coffee stops are he is the person to call.

Likes: Pimp bike stuff and Doughnuts

Dislikes: Mud

Favourite saying: “Don’t sacrifice good looks for speed. You can always look good going slow”

Ian Rothon

Ian has been at the shop for5 years now but has been riding mountain bikes for 23 years and the road for 10. He can be found doing the sportive rides up and down the country as well as the marathon mountain bike events and has been known to do the odd 24 hour race.

This year he has promised to do the 24 hour either solo or as a pair and Lands End to Jon O Groats which we will hold him to.

For rides around the Clwydian’s and the Denbigh, Abergele, Betwys-Y-Coed area he is the boy to see.

Likes: Victoria Pendleton, mammoth milage

Dislikes: Rain, Alberto Contador, Tool theives.

Favourite saying: “The fitter/lighter you get, the hills don’t get easier they just get faster”

Pete Calkin

Pete has been at the shop for just over six months and has ridden forms of transport with two wheels since he could walk. Considered as a jack-of-all, master-of-none, he is most comfortable on a mountain bike of some description. He has recently been introduced to the joys of road riding and lycra. Not a pretty sight

Likes: Suspension, cakes, melton mowbrays

Dislikes:Apple Thieves

Favourite saying: “Christ, these are a bit tight aren’t they?”

Ellis Blackman

He is also our resident cool kid and keeps us all down with it.

Dislikes: Tidying up, Things he doesn’t understand.

Fergus Russell-Roberts

Our shop guard dog and Founding member of the MBDO (Mountain bike dog organisation), he is probably the fittest member of the team and can regularly be found winding the pain into Andrew in the welsh hills

Likes: Long walks, Fast rides, Hoovering, Mule Bars

Dislikes: Heavy loads, lying around, sore pads

Christopher Kay

The newest member of our team - somewhat of an all rounder and more approachable than his demeanour would suggest. A cyclocross stalwart, a mountian bike fiend, a BMX masher, there is very little Chris won't turn his hand to. Having worked as a mechanic in cycle shops for most of his working life, he has a reputaion for being one of the best mechanics in the area, his sense of humour is usually as black as his hands.....

Likes: Tea, Singlespeed 29ers, biscuits

Dislikes: Chips, Poor parking, Washing up.....

Favourite Saying: Lighter, Stronger, Cheaper..........Choose two.

Ryan Morley

Ryan is our youngest member of staff, a gifted TT rider, and an absolutely god-awful mountain biker. He can usually be found blatting around the local lanes or tearing into the local ten miler, or lying in a storm ditch at Llandegla, He is also Chris' protege... none of us know how to feel about that.....

Likes: TT aero bikes, massive meals, skinsuits, sitting on...

Dislikes: Mud, MTB night rides, riding on the front....

Favourite saying: "Pete told me to"
